Ritz Carlton Residence, Portland

The homeowners for this project at the Ritz Carlton Residences in downtown Portland wanted custom mid-century modern style built-ins with an integrated sit-stand desk. The goal was to have the full flexibility of a height-adjustable workspace without sacrificing the look of a clean, built-in office.

The entire project is built from hand-selected rift-sawn white oak, finished with Rubio Monocoat “Pure.” To handle the room's unique geometry, the desk and cabinetry were laid out to follow the angle of the exterior wall while keeping the interior living space squared off. The face frames of the base cabinets, display cases, and the desk itself all share a 30 degree bevel face frame. The doors and drawer fronts are all grain matched rift-sawn white oak with integral finger pulls, and all edges are finished with solid wood edgebanding.

The custom tapered desktop is built directly around a motorized DeskHaus Apex Pro sit-stand frame, completely concealing the mechanisms when the desk is lowered. The base cabinet boxes are built from prefinished maple, while the drawer boxes are prefinished birch with custom dovetail joinery. The drawers use Blum Movento soft-close drawer guides and soft-close hinges. To eliminate surface cord clutter, a Blade Duo Docking Drawer outlet is integrated directly inside one of the custom drawer boxes to keep device charging off the desktop.
